FAQ’s
When can I enroll my child in kindergarten?
A child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if the child is five years of age by August 31 of the current school year. If a child turns five between September 1 and December 31 of the current school year, he/she is eligible to apply for early kindergarten entrance testing.
Do you offer half-day kindergarten?
Yes! We have half-day options at all of our elementary schools, with the exception of Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary.
What subjects do you teach in QCUSD Kindergarten classes?
Kindergarten students will have comprehensive and challenging instruction in academic core areas such as reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
Students will also have college and career exploration opportunities, music classes, physical education courses, and before and after-school enrichment programs.
Can I enroll my child in a virtual kindergarten class?

Is there early-entrance testing?
Yes! Registration for early testing begins March 3, 2025. Early-entrance kindergarten testing dates for the 2025–2026 school year will take place on June 11 and June 12, 2025, with the final testing date on July 7, 2025.
If the child turns five (5) between September 1 and December 31 of the current school year, they are eligible to apply for early entrance testing. Testing will be administered in a classroom/group setting. Testing will include academic, social and emotional, and fine motor skills. All results are final.
Testing will last approximately one hour. Parents/guardians must stay on site until the testing is complete. We will not permit parents/guardians in the testing classroom.
The non-refundable registration fee is $30, payable by cash or check. The testing fee must be paid prior to the testing session.
